Sunday, January 07, 2007 Satin Restuarant @ Geylang They have shifted!! to a bigger place, but not grander.. and the decor, as in the old place, is kept to the minimal- newspaper clippings of articles featuring their dishes. But the place is still packed!! and they're understaffed... so bear with the wait.. but waiting for dishes of this quality is definitely worth it!! =) ![]() Scallops in a basket!- previously, they used lobster for this dish.. now they've changed it to scallop, which is a much wiser choice! i love the taste of the sea which is still light and heightened by the simple toppings- coconut and a single fried curry leaf. Eat the basket too!! And the crunchy finely chopped cabbage at the bottom of the basket further emphasizes the smooth, almost lux texture of the scallops. ![]() Abalone, sea cucumber and bak choi. I don't realli like sea cucumber.. but it's prep by Satin, so i ate it. =p There are many types of sea cucumber.. this is the soft type that slidders down your throat. heh. The sauce is the usual, but i like this dish bcos the taste of the sauce is infused into the abalone.. even if you slice it thinly (as i always do with abalone), the taste lingers. And perfectly cooked, it's bouncy and tender. delicious. ![]() Another of their famous dishes- this is skin of dragon fish. (long yu) Deep fried to an absolute crisp, you're supposed to dip it into a bowl of consume before crunching into it. Surprisingly, the consume doesn't make damp and soggy.. instead, it juz boosts the taste- Magical! And it's ohh-so-crunchy.. much much better than any chips. Addictive!! ![]() |
